How to Book Your Field Day

Once you have successfully passed your online Hunter Exam, you must register to take part in an instructor led field day, specially designed for online internet course participants. You must complete this live field day training session withing 6 months of having passed the online course.

Find the date and sign up for your field day online at www.fw.delaware.gov. On the Delaware website, the course type is called: Field day training for online basic hunter ed course.

At the registration check-in on field day, you must present an original copy of your Field Day Entrance Voucher to the instructor. Students under the age of 18 need the signature of a parent or guardian in the appropriated blank on the voucher.

To meet the Delaware requirements for final Hunter Education Certification, students must successfully complete BOTH the online course AND the instructor led, field day training session. The live field day training sessions are usually scheduled on a Sunday from 8 AM till 1 PM.

What is a "field day training session"?

The mandatory field day is a five hour live course, specially designed for students who took the basic hunter education course online.

It is led by volunteer hunter education instructors who will provide the students with "hands on" practical training in the loading, unloading, casing and safe handling of firearms. Live firing exercises will give each student the opportunity to experience shotgun shooting at aerial clay targets. Firearms and ammunition will be provided but students are welcome to bring their own firearms. All firearms are to remain cased until they are removed under instructor supervision. Students must have eye and hearing protection to participate.

Field skills involving boats, blinds, tree stands, zones of fire and fences will be taught. Other subjects will include Delaware game laws and regulations, distance estimation and safe behavior in the field. A short progress control test is included. Most field day training takes place out of doors. Students should dress appropriately.
